Ashley Vance Qualifies for National Swim Team

ORLANDO, FL- On the final night of the 2010 NCSA Swimming Championships in Orlando, Florida, Baylor's Ashley Vance qualified for the NCSA National team by placing 2nd in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:01.12. The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify for the national team, and will represent the USA at the Irish national championships in April. Vance ranks as the 6th fastest 17 year old in this event in the country.

Also on Saturday, Baylor's Kristen Vredeveld placed 3rd in the 50 freestyle, clocking a time of 23.10. Vredveld is still under consideration for the trip to Ireland, and is the 3rd fastest 14 year old in the nation and was the fastest 14 year old in the competition.

Vredveld then lead off Baylor’s 400 medley relay in a National championship qualifying time of 55.77, the 6th fastest time in the nation for her age. Then Alison Lusk, Vance, and Anna Rae Gwarjanski combined for a great time of 3:45.77 to place 6th and qualify for the National championships held in Irvine, California this August.

Vance, Vredeveld, Alison Lusk and Christian Carbone posted great swims and nationally ranked times so far at the 2010 NCSA National Junior Championships in Orlando Florida. Over 1100 athletes from all over the country are competing in this championship.

Vance placed 6th in the 100 yard breastroke with a time of 1:02.20. This time ranks her fifth nationally for 17 year olds, is a new Baylor School and Baylor Swim Club record. Vance also has placed 5th in the 50 breastroke, 10th in the 200 breastroke and set a new Baylor Swim Club record with a time of 4:21.83 in the 400 Individual medley.

Vredeveld placed 11th in the 100 freestyle and 13th in the 200 freestyle. Both swims are the fastest by a 14 year old in the meet, and now Vredeveld is ranked 3rd nationally in the 100 freestyle and 7th nationally in the 200 freestyle, both times are Baylor Swim Club 13-14 records.

Carbone swam the fastest time by a 15 year old in the meet in the 400 IM clocking a time of 4:00.83 that ranks him currently 13th in his age group nationally. Chrisitian also broke the Baylor Swim Club record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:53.03

Alison Lusk placed 11th in the 200 breastroke and 15th in the 100 breastroke.

Baylor finished 18th overall out of over 200 teams in this national competition, it’s third top twenty finish in a row.
