Baylor Recognized as Silver Medal Club of Excellence
by Brian Gill 2018-01-04 09:56:00

What exciting news! The Baylor Swim Club has been awarded by United States Swimming the distinction of being a nationally ranked Silver Medal swim club in the USA Swimming Club of Excellence program for the 2018 swimming season!

What exactly does this mean? This means that Baylor Swim Club is recognized as one of the top clubs in the country based on organizational professionalism and athletic performance. To qualify for this award, Baylor had to submit an extensive report to United States Swimming, documenting club professionalism as well as both national and world-class performance.

Baylor Swim Club had a great performance scoring 7,056 points. The Baylor Swim Club is the only one in the Greater Chattanooga Area to earn this honor, and has been a Silver or Bronze medal club for nine out of the last eleven years.

USA Swimming Club Excellence Results for 2018

The purpose of this program is to:

  • Promote the development of comprehensive age group and senior swimming programs.
  • Provide ways which USA Swimming can better assist, encourage, and motivate our member clubs to strive for the highest ideals of development and performance and,
  • Encourage USA Swimming’s most successful professional coaches to become leaders in the sport through involvement in local and national governance.
  • This program’s goal is to embrace leadership and excellence in USA Swimming’s top member clubs. It identifies resources necessary for funding and support and recognizes the development system as integral to achieving excellence.

In its 17th year, the Club Excellence program identifies clubs that execute strong, well-rounded programs to produce elite 18-and-under athletes. The top 20 clubs earn Gold level ranking and those rated 21-100 are designated as Silver honorees. The next 100 clubs are recognized at the Bronze level. Each team’s ranking score is based on the FINA Points Table, a power point rating system that assigns point values to swimming performances based on the Gold, Silver or Bronze time standard. Starting with the 2017 Club Excellence rankings, Gold swims were multiplied by a factor of 2.0; points for Silver level swims were increased by a factor of 1.5.

Everyone in the Baylor Swim Club family, from the swimmers, to the parents, to our alumni should be very proud of this award. It is a testament to all the hard work, effort and commitment our club.

As the Baylor Swim Club grows in numbers of younger swimmers, the coaching staff looks forward to working with and developing members of the Developmental, AG, and Junior groups into student – athletes who will qualify for this program in the future!
