Assistant Coach / Swimming Lessons Instructor
Chris Butler is a junior at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, majoring in Biochemistry. He was born and raised in Chattanooga, TN. Chris began swimming at a young age, then joined the Chattanooga Area Swim League at age 8. Soon after, he started swimming year-round at Baylor Swim Club. Chris attended high school at Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences and swam all four years. While also training at Baylor, Chris placed 8th in finals in the 100 yard breaststroke his freshman year, qualifying for the NCSA Junior Nationals. Senior year he placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke. Chris is a 3 time Scholastic All-American and 2 time All American swimmer. He was selected for the Southeastern Swimming Zone team in 2014 and competed in the 2015 Speedo Junior National Championships in San Antonio, TX.
In 2013 Chris was Lifeguard/CPR/AED certified. He began working at age 15 at Warner Park pool in downtown Chattanooga. The last two years he worked at Warner Park pool he was the lifeguard supervisor. In addition to lifeguarding and supervising, Chris has also taught swimming lessons for the past two years. He loves working with children, teaching water safety and stroke techniques.
If Chris is not in the pool swimming or working on deck, he is out exploring. He loves going on hikes, cooking new foods, and traveling to new places. He is currently a volunteer at Erlanger Heart and Lung Institute and is involved in several organizations at UTC. Chris has aspirations to one day become a doctor.
