CHATTANOOGA, TN– On Saturday, November 16th the Baylor School will host the Spring Hill Suites Elite High School Invitational which will feature Cardinal Gibbons High School located in Raleigh, NC and also the McDonogh School from Owings Mills, MD. This will be a high-level meet that will be swum short course meters, and there will be several opportunities for the student-athletes to break high school national records in multiple events.
Baylor School swimming & diving is just coming off the girls and combined (boys & girls) TISCA State Championships in 2019. Ellie Waldrep is one of the top returning swimmers for the Baylor girls. She has 2020 Olympic Team Trials qualifying times in both the 100 and 200-meter backstroke events. Waldrep also just attended the 2019 USA Swimming National select camp that was held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.
Cardinal Gibbons High School located in Raleigh, NC has a very rich swimming history and has won multiple North Carolina High School Swimming State Championships. Sophomore Claire Curzan is one of their top returning athletes. She is the current NCSHAA State record holder in both the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly. Curzan is also a member of the USA Swimming National Junior Team, and represented Team USA at the 2019 FINA World Junior Championships in Budapest, Hungary this past summer.
The McDonogh School from Owings Mills, MD also has a storied history in high school swimming. The McDonogh School girls claimed their fourth straight Interscholastic Athletic Assoc. of Maryland Conference championship in 2019. They return both Meghan Lee and Dani Ghine to their 2019-2020 team.
The competition will begin at 10:00 AM at the Baylor School Natatorium on Saturday, November 16th. There will also be a reception for all athletes, coaches, and media on Friday, November 15th from 6-7 PM in the Tennessee River Room at the Spring Hill Suites Chattanooga Downtown/Cameron Harbor (495 Riverfront Pkwy, Chattanooga, TN 37402).
