Hitchcock Leads Baylor Swim Club at 2022 Speedo Junior National Championships

IRVINE, CA- This past week (Aug. 1-5)  Baylor Swim Club athletes Sam Flack, Caden Fritz, Drew Hitchcock, and Josean Massucco traveled to Irvine, CA to compete in the 2022 USA Swimming Speedo Junior National Championships. The meet was held at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.  This is one of the top swimming competitions in the country on an annual basis for swimmers eighteen years old and under. There are over 800 swimmers in the meet representing over 150 clubs from all over the country.

Leading the way for Baylor were some very impressive performances from seventeen-year-old Drew Hitchcock.  He finished second in the 400-meter IM posting a personal best time of 4:22.29.  On the last day of the meet, he also placed fifth overall in the 200 IM swimming a time of 2:03.12.  He also blasted a new team record of 55.15 in prelims of the 100-meter butterfly.  The previous record was set back in 2014 by Sam McHugh.

It was also a successful competition for Sam Flack, Caden Fritz, and Josean Massucco.  Flack swam to personal best times in both the 1500-meter and 800-meter freestyles.  Massucco had best times in the 200 and 400-meter freestyle events, while Fritz had personal best times in the 200-meter backstroke and 50-meter freestyle.
