ATLANTA, GA- This past weekend (May 14-16) five Baylor Swim Club athletes competed in the 2021 Mizuno Atlanta Classic Swim Meet held at the Georgia Tech McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, GA. The competition featured many of the best swimmers in the United States, and it was a tune-up meet for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in June. The swim of the meet came from Ellie Waldrep. She blasted a 1:01.04 in the 100-meter backstroke to qualify for Wave II of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. She finished third overall in the event and is now ranked 35th in the world in the 100-meter backstroke. The 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials- Wave II will be held June 13-20, 2021 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, NE. Due to the pandemic, the Olympic Team Trials for swimming were split into two separate meets. Those athletes competing in Wave II will race for a spot on the 2021 U.S. Olympic Team.
Other Baylor Swim Club athletes competing in this high-level meet include Lillie Boggs, Sam Flack, Charlie Han, and Drew Hitchcock. On Sunday sixteen-year-old Sam Flack finished 13th in the 800-meter freestyle in a time of 8:33.34. Freshman Drew Hitchcock had some solid swims racing to a 22nd place finish in the 200-meter butterfly. He also took 24th in the 800-meter free, 25th in the 200 IM, and finished 26th overall in the 400 IM. Fifteen-year-old Lillie Boggs some impressive swims in the breaststroke events. She claimed 26th overall in the 200-meter breaststroke swimming a time of 2:40.22.
