CHATTANOOGA, TN– On Saturday, October 27th the Baylor School took down four short course meters NISCA National Records in route to a victory over Science Hill High School. The Baylor School girls 200 short course meter freestyle relay of Ellie Waldrep, Jewel Gordon, Jamee Mitchum, and Addison Smith swam to a new NISCA National Independent School Record in a time of 1:46.35. The previous record was set by Trinity Prep in 2015. The Baylor School girls were victorious over Science Hill 192-93, while the Baylor School boys defeated Science Hill 205-78.
The Baylor School girls continued on a tear to set three more individual NISCA National Independent School Records. Senior, Addison Smith was responsible for two of those records. Smith set NISCA National Independent School Records in both the 200 and 400 short course meter freestyle events. Her time of 2:00.70 in the 200 short course meter freestyle bested the previous record which was set by Westminster School’s Elizabeth Hill back in 2003. Addison Smith also dominated the 400 short course meter freetsyle in a time of 4:16.18, and set the National Independent School Record. The previous record was held by Baylor School’s Emma Michaels which was set back in 2008. The final national record to go down was by sophomore Ellie Waldrep in the 100 short course meter backstroke. Her time of 1:00.34 took down Arden Pitman’s records from the Baylor School which was set in 2008.
There was also one NISCA National Public School Record that was set in the competition. Signal Mountain’s Cecilia Porter blasted a 1:09.05 in the 100 short course meter breaststroke to take down the record previously held by Ellyn Baumgardner from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, VA.
