Baylor Takes Combined, Boys TISCA State Championships

KNOXVILLE, TN- On Friday and Saturday, February 9-10 the Baylor School has won the combined and boys TISCA State Swimming & Diving Championships. This is the thirteenth year in a row that the Baylor School has won the combined team title, while the boys have taken the title five times out of the last six years. The Baylor School girls finished second overall behind a very good Harpeth Hall team.

The Baylor School had four individual event state championships, and one relay state title to clinch the team awards on Saturday evening. Trey Freeman had his final individual high school swim of his career and he did not disappoint. His time of 4:15.53 in the 500 freestyle got him his second state championship of the meet. He has ended his career as one of the most decorated swimmers that the Baylor School has ever produced. On the girls side, junior Addison Smith turned in a stellar performance in the 500 yard freestyle swimming it in a state championship time of 4:48.18. Junior, Jack Kirby was a double winner on Saturday evening finishing as a state champion in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke events.

The relays swims on Saturday evening were also important on their way to a taking the team titles. The boys 400 yard freestyle relay of Trey Freeman, Piotr Kurleto, Zach Althoff, and Jack Kirby took the state title in the event with a time of 2:59.52. The Baylor School girls finished second in both the 200 freestyle relay (Jamee Mitchum, Jewel Gordon, Dallas Woods, Addison Smith) and the 400 yard freestyle relay (Addison Smith, Sarah Riley, Angara Sinclair, Jamee Mitchum).

The Baylor School also had some big time production from the 1 meter diving competition. Elodie Nix finished 2nd scoring 366.70 points, and Olivia Bettis rounded out the scoring in tenth place. In the boys 1 meter diving competition senior Anthony Kranis placed seventh overall scoring 368.00 points.

The highlight of the meet on Friday came from senior Trey Freeman. He finished with a state title in 200 yard freestyle breaking his own state record and a new National High School Record with a time of 1:33.06. The Baylor School boys 200 yard Medley Relay of Jack Kirby, Luis Sebastian Weekes, Zach Althoff, and Piotr Kurleto came away with the state title and the fastest time in the country in the event. Luis Sebastian Weekes also swam to a state championship in the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:50.22.
