LIMA, PERU- Representing his home country of Barbados, Baylor School / Baylor Swim Club alumni Jack Kirby finished in 8th overall in the 100-meter backstroke at the 2019 Pan American Games. He swam a time of 56.38 to claim 8th in the A-Final heat on Thursday evening. The Pan American Games are held every four years and features 41 countries from the Americas (North America, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean) competing in 51 different sports. This year the games are being held in Lima, Peru from July 24-August 11 (swimming dates- Aug. 6-11).
He was the youngest athlete in his 100-meter backstroke heat, and he is the only 2019 NISCA High School All-American to final at the 2019 Pan American Games. Kirby also competed in the 200-meter backstroke and took 16th overall in the event, posting a time of 2:07.66. Earlier this summer Jack Kirby also represented Barbados at the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. He will be headed to college in the fall to attend and swim for the University of Southern California located in Los Angeles, CA.
