Freeman Takes 18 & Under National Championship for the Second Year In a Row

IRVINE, CA- For the second year in a row Baylor Swim Club’s Trey Freeman is the 18 & Under National Champion in the 400 meter freestyle at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships. He claimed fifth overall in a time of 3:49.90.  In the morning prelims session on Sat., Freeman swam to a personal best time of 3:49.02 which earned him a spot in the championship final.  Last year at the Phillips 66 National Championships Freeman claimed 18 & Under National Titles in both the 200 and 400 freestyle events.  Due to his performances at this competition he will earn a spot on either USA’s 2019 World Unviersity Games Team (July 3-14 in Naples, ITA) or the 2019 Pan American Team (July 26- Aug. 11 in Lima Peru). 

On the final day of the Phillips 66 National Championships Freeman cruised to an 8th place finish in the 800 freestyle in a new personal best time of 7:56.53.  He was the only 18 & Under male to place in the Top 8 in three events. He also earned USA Swimming’s TYR Next Generation award.

On Thurs. July 26th, Freeman also competed in the Championship Final of the 200 meter freestyle. He finished eighth overall in a time of 1:48.20. In the morning prelims session, Freeman posted a new personal best time of 1:47.70.  On Wed., July 25th, the opening day of the meet ,he also competed in the 18 & Under D Final in the 100 meter freestyle finishing with time of 50.27, which was good for 3rd in the heat.

Freeman will finish at Baylor School / Baylor Swim Club as one of the most decorated swimmers in history.  Next year Freeman will be swimming and attending the University of Florida.

The Phillips 66 National Championships were held July 25- July 29 at the William Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine, CA .  This will serve as the selection meet for the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo, Japan, held August 9-12. The 2019 FINA World Championship team will then be selected based on combined results from nationals and Pan Pacs.  The 2019 World University Games team, 2019 Pan American team, and the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Championships team will also be selected based on this competition.  Baylor Swim Club / Baylor School Head Coach Dan Flack will serve as Team USA’s men’s Head Coach at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Fiji at the end of August.
