INDIANAPOLIS, IN- This past week, June 27- July 1, Baylor Swim Club / Baylor School athlete Drew Hitchcock raced at the 2023 USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships. The competition was held at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, IN. This meet featured the best swimmers from all over the United States. It served as the selection meet for the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, the 2023 World Aquatics Junior Championships, the LEN (European Swimming Federation) U23 Championships, and the Pan American Games. Hitchcock had some outstanding performances including qualifying for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in both the 200-meter butterfly and the 400-meter Individual Medley.
On Thurs., June 27th, Hitchcock blasted a time of 4:20.91 in the 400-meter IM to capture a 2024 Olympic Trials qualifying time. It was also a new team record in the 400-meter IM which was previously held by Sam McHugh set back in 2016. His swim also earned him a place in the B-Final in the event to eventually take 14th overall. He was also the second fastest 18 & Under swimmer in the event.
Hitchcock earned his first 2024 Olympic Trials cut in the 200-meter butterfly on Tues., June 27th dropping a time of 1:59.13 in preliminaries. He then competed in the C-Final to take 20th overall and race to a time of 1:58.83 in the event. This was also a new team record for Hitchcock which was set back in 2014 by Sam McHugh.
The 2024 U.S Olympic Team Trials- Swimming will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from June 15-23, 2024. For the first time ever, the event will be staged on a football field, as Lucas Oil Stadium is tapped to host the Olympic-qualifying meet in front of hundreds of thousands of families, friends, and fans over nine days.
