AUBURN, AL– This past weekend June 21-23, 2019 the over 50 Baylor Swim Club athletes traveled to Auburn, AL to compete in the 2019 Richard Quick Invitational held at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center located on the campus of Auburn University. Over 500 swimmers from all over the southeast competed in the meet. On Day 1 of the Richard Quick Invitational, Baylor Swim Club athlete Addison Smith qualified for the 2020 Olympic Team Trials in the 200-meter freestyle. She finished 1st overall in the event with a time of 2:00.86. Smith also broke the team record in the event, which was set in 2011 by Baylor School and University of California standout Kristen Vredeveld. On the final day of the meet, Smith also made the Olympic Trials qualifying time in the 200 IM. Her time of 2:17.12 also claimed the top spot in the event.
Twelve-year-old Luke Waldrep also had a fantastic meet. He claimed the high point award in the 11-12 boys age group with a total of 114 points. Waldrep finished first overall in the 400-meter freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle, and 100 freestyle events. The 11-12 girls high point runner-up award went to Avery May with 105 points. She finished first in both the 50 and 100-meter breaststroke events.
