ATLANTA, GA- This past week (Dec. 11-14) six Baylor School / Baylor Swim Club athletes competed in the 2019 USA Swimming Speedo Winter Junior Championships- EAST at the Georgia Tech McAuley Aquatics Center in Atlanta, GA. This is one of the top swimming competitions in the country on an annual basis for swimmers eighteen-years-old and under. Leading the way for Baylor were some outstanding swims from both Ellie Waldrep and Lille Boggs.
Seventeen-year-old Ellie Waldrep blasted a 2:00.62 in the 200-yard IM to claim a new Baylor School Team record in the event. The previous school record was held by Ashley Vance which was set back in 2009. Waldrep also finished seventh overall in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events. She currently has 2020 Olympic Trials qualifying times in both the 100 and 200-meter backstroke events.
The Baylor Swimming girls 4×50 Medley Relay of Ellie Waldrep, Lillie Boggs, Jewel Gordon, and Logan Watson-Brown finished seventh overall in the event. Their time of 1:42.09 is the fourth fastest in Baylor School history. The same quartet also finished 19th overall in the 4×100 Medley Relay.
Fourteen-year-old and newcomer to Baylor Lille Boggs had an outstanding meet. Boggs broke Baylor Swim Club 13-14 team records in both the 400 IM and 500 freestyle events. She finished 20th overall in the 400 IM swimming a time of 4:23.01. Both the 400 IM and 500-yard free records were previously held by Addison Smith who is currently a freshman swimming at Princeton University.
