CHATTANOOGA, TN– Baylor School / Baylor Swim Club has announced that Payton Brooks, an Assistant Swim Coach for the Virginia Tech Hokies, has been named Head Coach / Director of Competitive Swimming for the Baylor Swimming & Diving Programs. Coach Brooks becomes the tenth Head Coach in program history.
“Payton is everything that we were looking for in a head swim coach. He has been an integral part of successful programs at a variety of levels and reputably builds a strong rapport with his athletes,” said Baylor School Athletic Director Mark Price. “I am eager for our student-athletes to have the opportunity to develop under his leadership, and I am confident that he will continue to build upon the success of this tradition-rich program.”
Brooks joined the Hokie staff as the assistant in 2019; he played a role in leading the Tech men to 11th-place finishes at the NCAA Championships the past two seasons – the highest finishes in school history. The Tech women finished 21st and 23rd respectively, earning the lady Hokies the second and third-highest finishes for the program. Through these performances, the Hokies earned 42 All-American honors.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- USA Swimming released the roster for its 2021-2022 Scholastic All-America Team, and two Baylor Swim Club / Baylor School student-athletes were selected for this honor.
Making the Scholastic All–America team from Baylor is senior Sam Flack, junior Drew Hitchcock, and sophomore Luke Waldrep. Congratulations to these scholar-athletes on their achievement, as well as the coaches and parents who help support the athletes every day.

CHATTANOOGA, TN- On Friday, September 30th three Baylor School swimming alumni were inducted into the Baylor School Sports Hall of Fame. Will Hunt ’89, Sloane Pitman ’09, and Coach Jim Stover were a part of the eleven-member Sports Hall of Fame class of 2022. They were celebrated and inducted during an all-school assembly held on the annual Baylor School alumni weekend (Sept. 30-Oct. 2).

CHATTANOOGA, TN– This past weekend, September 24-25, 2022, the Baylor Swim Club hosted and competed in the 2022 Fall Kick-Off Classic held at the Baylor School Natatorium. One Hundred and fifteen Baylor Swim Club athletes participated in the two-day meet. Over 500 swimmers from the states of Tennessee and Georgia competed in the swim meet. Special congratulations to all the new Baylor Swim Club athletes that participated in their first-ever year-round swim meet, and to all the parents that volunteered their time this past weekend!

CHATTANOOGA, TN- Interim Head Coach / Director of Operations Laura Pitman is thrilled to announce that Stephanie Davis will be taking over the coaching duties for Baylor Swim Club’s TRI-Masters Swimming program. Coach Davis is a certified United States Masters Swim Coach and brings a wealth of experience working with competitive adult swimmers, triathletes, and the average adult swimmer wanting to keep in shape.
Baylor TRI-Masters Swimming is dedicated to helping adults 18 years of age and older to incorporate healthier lifestyles through the sport of swimming. The TRI-Masters program for the 2022-2023 season begins on Mon., Sept. 19th. LIMA, PERU- This past week, August 30-September 4, Baylor School / Baylor Swim Club athlete Josean Massucco represented his home country of Puerto Rico at the 2022 FINA World Junior Championships. The competition was held at the VIDENA Aquatic Center in Lima, Peru. This is the premier swimming competition for 18 & Under athletes from all over the world. Massucco’s best races from the meet came in both the 200-meter butterfly and the 400-meter freestyle events. He finished ninth overall in the 200-meter butterfly (2:02.67) and took 15th in the 400-meter freestyle (4:01.75), which are both new personal best times.

HONOLULU, HI– Baylor Swimming Director of Operations / Coach Laura Pitman was selected as the team manager for the USA Swimming National Junior Team as they compete in the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. The competition is being held from August 24-27 at the K. Mark Takai Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Honolulu, HI. The meet features some of the best 18 & Under athletes from the pan pacific nations of the USA, Japan, Australia, Canada, and other select non-European countries. Pitman was selected as the Head Manager of the National Junior team camp that was held May 5-11, 2022 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. The Baylor School is now hiring lifeguards. Applicants must have a current lifeguard certification from the American Red Cross, YMCA, or Ellis. We have several different shifts available including mornings,mid-day, afternoons/ evenings, and Saturdays. Morning and Evening shifts are during coached practices. All shifts are at the Baylor School Natatorium (171 Baylor School Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37405). Compensation ranges from $13 – $15 per hour depending on experience. IRVINE, CA- This past week (Aug. 1-5) Baylor Swim Club athletes Sam Flack, Caden Fritz, Drew Hitchcock, and Josean Massucco traveled to Irvine, CA to compete in the 2022 USA Swimming Speedo Junior National Championships. The meet was held at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center. This is one of the top swimming competitions in the country on an annual basis for swimmers eighteen years old and under. There are over 800 swimmers in the meet representing over 150 clubs from all over the country.
Leading the way for Baylor were some very impressive performances from seventeen-year-old Drew Hitchcock. He finished second in the 400-meter IM posting a personal best time of 4:22.29. On the last day of the meet, he also placed fifth overall in the 200 IM swimming a time of 2:03.12. He also blasted a new team record of 55.15 in prelims of the 100-meter butterfly. The previous record was set back in 2014 by Sam McHugh.
