CHATTANOOGA, TN- On July 11, 2023, the Baylor School Swimming & Diving teams were recognized by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA) as 2022-2023 Scholar Teams.
The Baylor School boys had a 3.653 team GPA to earn NISCA Silver Level Academic status. The boy’s team also got it done in the pool as they claimed second at the 2023 TISCA State Swimming & Diving Championship.
The Baylor School girls finished with a 3.732 team GPA earning NISCA Silver Level Academic Status.

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA– Congratulations to all swimmers that competed in the 2023 CASL Bill Caulkins City Meet held at the Arlene Crye Pool of Fort Oglethorpe Recreation Dept. on Friday and Saturday, July 7th and 8th. All Baylor Swim Club members that competed did an outstanding job and represented Baylor Swimming well. COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- On Monday, July 10th, Baylor School / Baylor Swim Club athlete Drew Hitchcock was named to USA Swimming’s 2023 World Aquatics Junior Championship team. The competition will be held September 4-8 at the Wingate Institute in Netanya, Israel. This is the premier swimming competition for 18 & Under swimmers from all over the world. Athletes were selected for this team based on results from the 2023 Phillips 66 National Championships. Athletes qualifying for World Juniors must be between the age of 14 and 18 on December 31, 2023. This event marks the first time Israel will host a World Aquatics Junior Championships. More than 600 athletes and 100 national federations are expected to compete at this event.

JOIN Baylor Swim Club for the 2023-2024 season! New swimmer practice group placements will be held at 5:00 PM on Tues., or Wed., Aug. 15th or 16th at the Baylor School Natatorium. Returning member online registration opens on Monday, August 7th, while new member online registration will open on Thursday, August 17th.
The first practice for the 2023-2024 season for the Senior group will be on Monday, August 21. The AG and Juniors will start practices on Monday, August 28, 2023, while all the Developmental (Red, White, & Grey) groups will begin on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN- This past week, June 27- July 1, Baylor Swim Club / Baylor School athlete Drew Hitchcock raced at the 2023 USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships. The competition was held at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, IN. This meet featured the best swimmers from all over the United States. It served as the selection meet for the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, the 2023 World Aquatics Junior Championships, the LEN (European Swimming Federation) U23 Championships, and the Pan American Games. Hitchcock had some outstanding performances including qualifying for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in both the 200-meter butterfly and the 400-meter Individual Medley.

CHATTANOOGA, TN- Baylor Swimming had eight athletes earn National Interscholastic Coach Association (NISCA) All-American status for the 2022-2023 high school swimming season. The 2022-2023 season highlighted individual NISCA All-American performances from Drew Hitchcock, Josean Massucco, Sam Flack, and Luke Waldrep. Junior Drew Hitchcock, swam to All-American status in the 100-yard butterfly (47.13), 200-yard IM (1:46.22), 100-yard freestyle (44.00), and 100-yard backstroke (49.16) events. Hitchcock’s swims in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM are ranked as the tenth-fastest high school times in the country. Massucco achieved NISCA All-American times in the 500-yard (4:28.77) and 200-yard freestyle (1:37.87) events. Senior Sam Flack captured All-American times in both the 500-yard freestyle (4:25.30) and 200-yard freestyle (1:38.12). Luke Waldrep had an All-American performance in the 500-yard freestyle swimming to a time of 4:31.20. Finally, all three of the Baylor School boys relays were named as NISCA All-Americans for the 2022-2023 high school season.

KNOXVILLE, TN– On June 16-18, 2023, the Baylor Swim Club traveled to Knoxville, TN to compete in the 2023 Tennessee Aquatics June Spectacular held at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatics Center located on the campus of the University of Tennessee. Baylor Swim Club had over 40 athletes participate in the three-day meet. Over 600 swimmers from the states of Tennessee, Arkansas, Colorado, and Illinois competed in the swim meet. Fourteen-year-old Hayden Vicknair led Baylor as he broke five team records over the course of the three-day competition. Vicknair took down the 13-14 100-meter free club record swimming a time of 54.45. The previous record was held by Trey Freeman, one of Baylor’s most decorated athletes, and it dates back to 2015. He also eclipsed the team record in the 50-meter freestyle clocking a time of 25.22. This was a 22-year-old record that was set back in 1999 by Owen Roberts. Vicknair also set new 13-14 club records in the 100-meter fly (58.66), 200-meter fly (2:11.48), and 100-meter backstroke (1:03.85) events.

It is once again time for another great season of CASL summer league swimming and Nights at the Races. Below is just some information the Baylor Swimming Staff would like to pass on to you.
Every Baylor Swim Club member who participates, officiates, coaches, or attends a Monday or Thursday-night meet has an excellent opportunity to spread the word about the benefits of Baylor Swim Club and year-round swimming. Our coaches will make the rounds at many meets, but we can’t be everywhere. These Monday and Thursday night meets are a great way for all members to get involved in building our program.

The 2023 JULY Group Swimming Lessons schedule and online registration dates are now available. This summer (June & July) ALL group swimming lessons will be held at the Wilson Activity Center outdoor pool. Beginner, Advanced Beginner, and Pre-Swim Team classes will all be offered this summer. This pool is nestled on the Tennessee River and is located between the Ireland Studio Arts Center and the Music Building.
Private and semi-private swimming lessons are also now available in the month of July.

Congratulations to the thirteen Baylor Swimming seniors who have announced their college choices for 2023. Eight out of the thirteen seniors will be continuing their swimming careers in college.
